Other interesting locations in Bakersfield include the California Animal Living Museum, the historic restaurant Basque, and the restored Fox Theater, to name a few.

As one of the fastest growing cities in the whole of the United States, Bakersfield has an economy based on both agriculture and industry, specifically petroleum.
Housing developments in the city of Bakersfield follow a hopscotch pattern. Several locations are currently undergoing developments, such as the Kern Canyon and the Rio Bravo areas. However, the government of Bakersfield has been trying to balance the growth in the area with the need to preserve various natural resources, including the Kern River and the Bakersfield oil fields.
